WEG Eventing: cross-country test scheduled for today
Let’s take a look now at today’s schedule from the WEG Eventing competition taking place in Normandy.
With the dressage stage over, the provisional leadership is now in the hands of Germany’s Sandra Auffarth (35.0). The next stage is the cross country which will be without Italian rider Vittoria Panizzon and Borough Pennyz who retired from the competition yesterday. The Italian hopes now lie with Giovanni Ugolotti with Stilo Kontika, Stefano Fioravanti on Nodin d’Orval and Evelina Bertoli with Leitrim Orient Express.

It is worth noting that two fences, number 20 and 23, have been removed from the course designed by Pierre Michelet after appeals from the participants. It means the course is now 5,982 m (6,500 previously) and the journey time has also been dropped from 11 minutes and 30 seconds to 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
An explanation into the removal of the fences has been given in part by British rider William Fox-Pitt. He stated that one of the fences represented an ambiguous distance to the ditch while the heavy rains have also had an impact on the course.
