Veterinary medicine, in-depth analysis on hoof trimming and shoeing
In this publication, which is inspired to a manual by Doctor Vittorio Meschia entitled “The lameness of the horse, know to understand“, we will analyze some important features of hoof trimming and shoeing. Both birth and acquired defects, involving art perpendicularity, shape and mechanics can be all corrected with hoof trimming and shoeing. Hoof trimming is useful to act on the defective parts of the feet in a gradual way and not invasively. It can also involve a change in the shape of the hoof to adjust the beat timing. In order to fasten the pace of the horse, toes needs to be short and heels to be high; this new form increases the impact on the foot and changes considerably the digital axis, reducing the cushion activity of the elastic elements. Shoeing, as it takes into consideration the nature of the ground and fits the shape of the foot, can preserve from usury and can help distributing weights and stress evenly on the art.
