Steve Guerdat triumphs again at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour
Riding ‘Albfuehren’s Maddox’ this Swiss rider, Ranked No: 20 in the world won today’s 1.55m Grand Prix
Vejer; Sunday 20th February, 2022: Today Steve Guerdat had a great win in the Big Grand Prix here at Andalucía Sunshine Tour 2022. He was riding ’Albfuehren’s Maddox’ the bay Swedish Warmblood who is by ‘Cohiba 1198’, dam sire ‘Maraton’. This is not their only big win here, on the 11th of this month they were also the winners of another Longines Ranking class.
Steve Guerdat, is a very well known and respected rider and voice in the world of showjumping. He is currently ranked 20th in the FEI Longines World Rankings. He has attended five Olympic games and is one of the elite few, who have taken home an individual Olympic gold medal, that was in the London Olympics. His achievements on paper are too long to list here but he is a consummate horseman and we are delighted to say, a regular visitor here at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour. He always brings a number of horses to school and start off their seasons on grass and just last week he had another big victory; winning the Small Tour GP with ‘Dynamix de Belheme’.
The jump off today in the 1.55m Ranking GP was tense to the very last minute. Steve was actually the last rider to go out of the seven riders that got through. Up to that point, another of our regular podium riders, Olivier Perreau was in the lead with a very fast round.
The time to beat from this French rider and ‘GL Events Venizia D’Aiguilly’ was a mere 38.01s. With neat turns and great rhythm Steve stopped the clock in just 37.55s and the large crowd watching were absolutely delighted. Olivier Perreau and ‘GL Events Venizia D’Aiguilly’ had to make do with a very well deserved second place, repeating their result in the 1.50m, Cervezas Victoria class that was held on the 18th. The mare is by the wonderful stallion ‘Diamant de Semilly’ who sadly passed away recently. Her dam sire is the fabulous ‘Quick Star’.
In third place was the Austrian rider Max Kühner who was riding ‘Eic Coriolis des Isles’ (‘Zandor’, ds ‘Tlaloc M’; fourth was the german rider Kendra Brinkop with ‘Malissa de Muze’ (‘Vigo D’Arsouilles STX’ ds ‘For Pleasure’ and fifth; was the Swiss rider Alain Jufer with Dante MM by ‘Diarado’, ds ‘Luxius’).
This was not the only Swiss win today; in the Hickstead arena the Medium Tour GP proved to be a very challenging class but Aurelia Loser showed off her quality with another mare, ‘Anaba Haize’. This bay mare is by ‘Ravage de Mars’ and her dam sire is ‘C Indoctro II’. There were eight riders in the jump off with one deciding not to take part
so just seven horses jumped. Gudrun Patteet (BEL) and ‘Sea Coast Donna Z’ came second in just under a second slower than the winner. American riders took third and fourth places, Lucas Porter with ‘C Hunter’ and Michael Hughes with ‘Melodie-K Van’t Kattenheye’. In fifth place was Steve Guerdat with ‘Dynamix de Belheme’ who has just stepped up from last week’s Small Tour GP win.
In this week’s Small Tour Grand Prix Helmut Schönstetter (GER) was our winner with ‘Neugschwents Concordia’ who is by ‘Come Il Faut 5’. They stopped the clock in the jump off in 37.78s. Swedish rider Antonia Andersson wasn’t far behind, taking second place in just 38.17s with ‘Dyneine de Lilau’. Third was the Japanese rider Taizo Sugitani with ‘Quincy 194’; fourth was Swiss rider, Lea de Coulon with ‘Goldfinger Z’ and in fifth was the Danish rider, Kristian Skovrider with ‘Otis Blue AC/WB’.
These three GP classes were all FEI Longines Ranking classes
In the CSI1*, 1.35m the winner was Lauren Davine for Ireland with ‘Cassandra VL Z’ who beat the challenge from Spanish rider Celia Cobo with ‘Chantre’ who was second. British rider, Lila Bremner with ‘Cocktail D’Azur’ was third and another Spanish rider, Lara Ortiz with was fourth with ‘Joapke’. In fifth was Finnish rider Hugo Kogelnig with ‘Vermont’.
The Spanish Olympian Eduardo Álvarez Aznar was the winner of the Big Tour 1.45m class today with the wonderful Engerupgaards Cezanne’, and he also took fifth place with ‘Enjoy de la Mure’. French riders took second and third places Penélope Leprevost with ‘Djagger Semilly’ and Olivier Perreau this time riding ‘Dalton du Morion’. In fourth place was Cecilie Tofte with ‘Happiness’.
The Medium Tour 1.40m was won by the British rider Adam Botham with ‘Harvey’. In second place was Derin Demirsoy from Turkey with ‘Empire EH Z’. Spanish riders took up the rest of the placings, Carolina Villanueva with ‘Indigo Blue Biolley’, Kevin González de Zárate with ‘Bella PS’ and his brother, Álvaro with ‘Corlensky Imperio Egipcio’ was fifth.
The Medium Tour 1.30m had an Irish top two and a British 3 and 4. Lucinda Roche was the winner with ‘Izar LB’, second was Seamus Kennedy Hughes with ‘Castlefield Kamira’, Third, Adam Botham with ‘Millfield Counterfeit’ and fourth was Barry Dove with ‘ Chataga Z’.
We start up competition here next Tuesday, and this will be the last day that the Young Horses may add a qualifying score to their sums towards the Finals (4 clear rounds required).
