Saved from the Po River by the horseback police
A 26-year-old Chinese man attempted to commit suicide by throwing himself into the Po River, and was saved by the mounted police force.
The incident occurred Tuesday evening, around 21.30, in the Valentino park, near the Borgo Medievale. The rescue effort was achieved thanks to the collaboration of the mounted police and police car, after the river currents had already dragged the young man’s body downstream to Murazzi.
The man was spotted in the river by a passer-by who called the mounted police, who then attempted the first rescue, but then had to call in support for the tricky operation. When the squad car arrived the two onboard officers dived into the river equipped with a lifejacket and rope, and in the end managed to drag the man to safety.
After the trying experience the 26-year-old was taken to the Mauriziano hospital, and doctors confirmed that he was suffering from hypothermia, but should make a full recovery.
