Salasso and his love for bare back riding
From the Palio of Siena to endurance but always ‘nude’. The love for the Palio of Siena and thus for ‘riding bare back’ pushed the two time winner of the Palio of Siena, Alberto Ricceri, dubbed ‘Salasso’, to participate in an endurance race riding without the use of a saddle, as happens in the Palio. It all took place in Tuscany during a Regional Championship event. The dare devil jockey, born in Siena on October 6th 1975, turned up on a bare back horse that belonged to Mr Bellaccini but he was not permitted to start due to problems with the regulations that state that all horses must be fully equipped, including the saddle, even if not specifically mentioned.
