Rising Equestrian Star: Millie Allen’s Journey and Her Precious 11 Medals
In the world of equestrian sports, Millie Allen stands out as a shining star. At just 26 years old, this talented rider from Great Britain has already represented her country at the European Championships eight times, amassing an impressive collection of eleven medals. Despite her numerous accolades, Millie remains humble and passionate about her sport, continuously striving for excellence.
A Passion for Representing Her Country
When asked about the feeling of standing on the podium, Millie’s enthusiasm is palpable. “Nothing gets you used to the feeling,” she says. “There’s a really special feeling representing your country at any level, and I really hope I can do it more in the future.” It’s clear that her patriotism and love for equestrianism drive her forward.
Among her numerous medals, the team gold in the Young Riders category in Samorin holds a special place in her heart. “It was a special one, and it was a great team,” she recalls. “It really felt like everyone was supporting us, and Britain really came together to win it there.”
Olympic Aspirations and Early Experiences
Millie’s journey in the equestrian world has also included being part of the Olympic program for the 2016 Rio Olympics, a youth program that gave her invaluable insights. “We got to go to Rio and watch the show jumping and other sports, see the Olympic Village, and experience
the atmosphere,” she explains. “It was an incredible experience that really motivated me to try and get there one day.”
Her ultimate dream is to compete in the Olympics, a goal shared by many riders. However, Millie is also focused on more immediate ambitions. “My main goals are trying to get to a five-star level and be consistent there,” she says. “But, obviously, the dream is the Olympics.”
Building a Future in Belgium
Currently based in Belgium, Millie is making strides in her career at Karel Cox Horses Stables. “I moved to Belgium two and a half years ago,” she shares. “I get a lot of rides there with different quality horses, but they’re all lovely.” With a promising string of eight-year-olds, Millie is optimistic about the future. “I’m hoping to thrive next year,” she says. “I have a couple of older horses that I’m building partnerships with now.” Though some of her best horses have been sold, she remains positive and dedicated to developing new partnerships.
Looking Ahead
Despite the transient nature of the equestrian business, Millie reflects on the special bonds she’s formed with her horses. “In my young rider career, it would have been with Balou Star, the little stallion that earned three of the eleven medals,” she fondly recalls. “He was special and quirky, and we really got a partnership together.”
As for the future, Millie remains focused on the present while holding onto her dreams. “I love Britain as a country,
but for my job and the horses, Belgium is great,” she explains. “Working for Karel has provided me with good experiences and exposure to different horses.”
With a short-term goal of representing Great Britain in a senior Nations Cup team and participating in bigger shows, Millie is set on achieving even greater heights. “I’d love to do a senior Nations Cup team, get into bigger shows like a four-star or even a five-star at some point,” she shares enthusiastically.
Reflecting on her journey and aspirations, Millie concludes, “I’m enjoying the process and learning so much every day.
It’s about building those partnerships with the horses and striving for those moments of excellence.
