Paris 2024 1

Following months of careful consideration, the International Olympic Committee has officially chosen Paris to host the 2024 Olympics. The Equestrian World came as no surprise to most people, as Paris was the favourite to win the bid, but what was surprising was the IOC’s decision to select, and announce, the hosts for 2028 at the same time; Los Angeles. The decision is a first in the IOC’s history, as never before had two Olympic games been assigned at the same time. The decision to have Paris host in 2024 was greeted with enthusiasm by the city’s mayor Anne Hidalgo, who seized the opportunity to invite fans from around the world to join the Paris family; a family that believes in the world and for whom the Olympic Games hold great importance. The French capital’s Princeps stated that she would be relying on a young team at the core of the event; a team that represents the future, the hopes and pride of the Parisian family. The decision is another great source of pride and satisfaction for the people of France who just last year saw their athletes triumph in the show jumping in Rio. The representatives for Los Angeles were no less delighted with the announcement, as they begin preparations to host LA 2028. In the meantime, the next Olympics appointment will be in Japan, for the Tokyo 2020 games. www.paris2024.orgMarzia CucchettiPhotography by Greg Martin/IOC
