This past Sunday, Irish rider Michael Pender claimed the 7-Year-Old World Championship title in Lanaken aboard HHS Mercedes.
The talented mare (Can Ya Makan x Couletto) who has consistently impressed throughout her young career, proved her worth yet again by helping Pender secure another major victory.
Bred by Marion Hughes and Miguel Bravo at their renowned HHS Stud, is the product of careful breeding and training, known for consistently producing top-performing sport horses.
Pender attributed their success to HHS Mercedes’ exceptional qualities. “What gives her the edge is that she’s very, very fast and competitive. She has a brilliant mind and wants to be good, which makes my job a lot easier,” he explained.
The journey with HHS Mercedes began early, and Pender noted her potential right from the start. “From day one, when the three-year-olds were jumped, she already looked like a very, very good horse, and she never disappointed all the way up.”
Earlier this year, HHS Mercedes, under the guidance of Molly Hughes Bravo, won the 7-year-old final at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour, highlighting her consistency at top levels.
“She jumped brilliantly. The plan was for me to ride her after training with Molly, and since I started riding her, she’s always been very competitive,” Pender added.
During the jump-off, Pender’s strategy, combined with the mare’s natural speed, proved decisive. “Before I went in, I was going through my plan. I was lucky to be on such a fast horse, and because of that, I was able to win,” he shared, emphasizing how crucial Mercedes’ speed was to their success.
After this remarkable performance, HHS Mercedes is set to enjoy a break. “She’ll probably rest for a while and then do a little bit in the Sunshine Tour. We’ve had very big hopes for her for many years, and hopefully, she continues to improve,”Pender said, looking ahead to the future with optimism.
With such strong performances and continuous development, HHS Mercedes’ future looks brighter than ever.
