The 2022 edition of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Mexico City is officially open, following a press conference with Francisco Pasquel, President of EQ Marketing and Show Director, Jan Tops, Founder and President of LGCT and GCL, Juan Manuel Cossio, President of the Mexican Equestrian Federation, Rafael David, International Director of the Mexican Equestrian Federation, Nicolás Pizarro, local Mexican rider and member of the Paris Panthers Darragh Kenny.
Irishman Darragh Kenny led the praise of Mexico City in today’s press conference saying: “It is lovely to be here, Mexico is such a beautiful City and the horse show here is amazing. The atmosphere here is absolutely incredible, the fans are amazing, the sport is one of the best it can be and I am just really excited to be here.“
Francisco Pasquel, show director smiled: “We are very happy to bring the most important event in the world to CDMX and thereby show that we Mexicans see it as the best event on the tour.“
With the Campo Marte situated in the heart of Mexico City, the event welcomes passionate spectators and many new fans, witnessing show jumping at the highest level for the first time. Jan Tops said; “I am very happy to be back in Mexico after three years in this wonderful city! I have so many amazing memories from all the people in Mexico and the fans here are incredible. We can guarantee every time people watch the Longines Global Champions Tour it is the highest level with the best riders and this weekend is no exception.“
The horses came straight from Miami Beach and have been in Mexico for over a week, Darragh Kenny explained how this has benefitted the horses to acclimatise to the altitude ahead of the competition: “I think this allows the horses to be more competitive, the horses arrived last Sunday and the facilities here are fantastic. The stables are excellent and the horses are really calm and quiet. My horses feel fantastic and having the week for the horses to adjust really helps them feel fresh and jump their best.“
Kenny then added about the Paris Panthers team tactics: “Now that we have Ben [Maher] joining the team [Paris Panthers] I think we have a very strong team. We didn’t have perfect results in the first two legs but I think we are getting together now. Maher has a very good new horse that he riders this week and it looks really special. Then I have two horses here who I have had for a long time so I am hoping we can have a very good result. Both of us really like this show and feel it could go really well.“
All the action kicks off on Thursday 28 April – tune in via GCTV to watch every moment as it happens…
