Khalid Ali Al Alathba’s Journey in Show Jumping and his vision for the future
In the world of international show jumping, Khalid Ali Al Alathba is a name to watch. At just 24 years old, this promising rider from Qatar is working tirelessly to make his mark on the global equestrian stage. We had the opportunity to sit down with Khalid to discuss his passion for the sport, his beloved horse Curt Lele, and his future aspirations.
The Beginning of a Dream
For Khalid, the journey began at the Qatar leg of the Global Champions Tour, an event that brings together some of the best riders in the world. “It all started with the Qatar Global Champions Tour,” Khalid recalls. “When our federation got involved with the Doha Falcons, I knew that joining that team would be a dream come true. I’m still working hard every day to make that a reality.”
With a deep commitment to the sport, Khalid has made impressive strides in his training and competition. He is driven by a desire to represent his country at the highest level and contribute to the growing prominence of equestrian sports in Qatar.
Training with Curt Lele
Khalid’s journey has been greatly supported by his partnership with his horse, Curt Lele. The bond between rider and horse is central to success in show jumping, and for Khalid, Curt Lele has been an essential part of his progress. “The training experience has been amazing,” he says. “Curt Lele and I have a great connection, and we’ve had some fantastic moments, especially during our summer shows in Italy. The hospitality and atmosphere there are always top-notch, and it’s a highlight of our year.”
Every year, Khalid and his horse make Italy a regular stop in their competition schedule. “The shows in Italy are something we look forward to. The facilities are great, and the environment is perfect for both me and Curt Lele to perform at our best,” Khalid adds.
Eyes on the Future
While this year may not have included a team event, Khalid is optimistic about the future. He and his fellow riders are already preparing for upcoming competitions, including the prestigious event in Los Angeles. “This year, we didn’t have the team at some events, but we’re working hard for next year, especially for Los Angeles,” Khalid explains. “The national team is putting in the effort, and we hope to not only compete but bring home a team medal one day. And of course, I dream of winning an individual medal too.”
The Equestrian Scene in Qatar
Qatar’s equestrian scene has been growing rapidly, with world-class facilities and an increasing number of international competitions hosted in the country. Khalid and his team are dedicated to ensuring that the sport continues to thrive. “We’re already at a stage where we’re bringing in top talent,” Khalid says. “During the winter season, we have Italian riders and some friends from Europe coming to join us for the Doha Tour. It’s a six-week FEI event, ranging from 1* to 5*, and we’re excited to see more European riders come and compete.”
Khalid encourages riders and equestrian enthusiasts from around the world to experience Qatar’s hospitality and exceptional venues. “On behalf of myself and all Qataris, I’d like to welcome our European friends and riders to come and join us. The facilities are amazing, and the hospitality is second to none. It’s the best time of the year to be here, starting in January and running through to the Global Champions Tour in Doha.”
Looking Ahead
With a clear vision and determination, Khalid Ali Al Alathba is set to continue his rise in the sport of show jumping. His dedication to training, his partnership with Curt Lele, and his passion for representing Qatar on the global stage make him a rider to follow closely in the coming years. As Khalid puts it, “I’m working hard every day, and I know that with the support of my team and my horse, we can achieve great things. The future is bright.”
