The Costa Smeralda in Sardinia did not have to strain to carve a place in the heart of polo fans after the captains who participated in the last championship at the start of summer 2008 declared: “Polo in Porto Cervo is a dream”. Organised by the same team behind Cortina Winter Polo on snow, the appointment with the Julius Baer Spring Polo Gold Cup – Costa Smeralda is organised for Sunday, May 24 and Monday, June 1 when more than 140 horses will arrive at the exclusive Sardinian resort. With a polo pitch in perfect condition, attentive organisation for the horses, and match day hospitality supplied by the Hotel Cala di Volpe, also headquarters of the organisation.
The Costa Smeralda Polo Gold Cup made its debut in 2006 earning immediate fame and credibility in the world of international polo, so much so that the 2009 event has been included in the World Polo Tour. The playing area of the Julius Baer Spring Polo Gold Cup – Costa Smeralda is situate at the Shergan Equestrian Centre, near to the characteristic hamlet of San Pantaleo.
