Italian capital gears up for LGCT
The second edition of the Rome leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour was unveiled yesterday in the Italian capital with riders set to go head to head in the eternal city for the 13th leg of the 2016 tour.
Following the Rome leg, the tour will then head to Vienna and then the big final in Doha. The exciting event in the Italian capital, scheduled from 8-11 September, includes Saturday’s GP followed by the Global Champions League.
On the subject of the latter, numerous points are still up for grabs with fourth place Rome Gladiators targeting a good result. Representing the Rome Gladiators will be US horsewoman Laura Kraut and Britain’s Laura Renwick.
Focusing back to the individual competition, flying the flag for Italy is Emanuele Gaudiano and Piergiorgio Bucci. Also called up are Emilio Bicocchi, Gianni Govoni, Juan Carlos Garcia and Bruno Chimirri while the wildcard entry is the young and talented Alberto Zorzi.
As always there are a host of international stars ready to strut their stuff such as the French stars Simon Delestre and Penelope Lèprevost not to mention the impressive German trio of Ludger Beerbaum, Marco Kutscher and Marcus Ehning.
Team GB will be in action with the legendary John Whitaker while Ireland’s hopes pass through Bertram Allen. Other big names include Edwina Tops-Alexander, Rolf-Goran Bengtsson, Luciana Diniz and Lauren Hough.
