Holland’s Smolders conquers the capital
The Rome leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour 2016 has been won by Holland’s Harrie Smolders with Don VHP Z. Smolders’ victory is his second in a LGCT GP after his maiden win in Shanghai last year while this season he was also second in the Hamburg stop-off.
Claiming second spot was Simon Delestre who is in fine form after winning the CSI4* Valence GP. There were 7 clears in the second round with Italy’s rising star Alberto Zorzi impressing with a clear in the jump-off but he just missed out on a podium finish in fourth as third spot went to Maikel van der Vleuten.
There was another Italian in the top-ten in the form of Piergiorgio Bucci who was 7th with 4 penalties with the mount Casallo Z. Here are the OVERALL standings after the capital stop-off of the tour:
