Emanuele Gaudiano: when victory becomes routine

Following the victory of Belgian Thierry Goffinet and Quick Diamant HR over the previous day’s winning pair, Emanuele Gaudiano/Jaja, in the first 4* class of the day, the serious business began in El Jadida with the 1.50 m qualifier for Sunday’s Grand Prix, won by… Emanuele Gaudiano. One day follows another in El Jadida.

The Prix MAPM/SOREC was run in two phases over a difficult 410 m course designed by Uliano Vezzani. Very few clear rounds – eight out of thirty-three starters – and in the end, the Italian won. Worst of all, he did it without giving the impression of having given his all.

But Gaudiano reminds us after every win: Nikolaj de Music is a naturally fast horse. “I rode him today and on Sunday he’ll jump the Grand Prix, so tomorrow I’ll give him a break and ride Chalou’s Love PS in the big class. I won the Grand Prix last year with Nikolaj and the plan is to retain that title next Sunday. This victory, along with yesterday’s, obviously it makes me feel confident for next Sunday.

Not counting Jaja’s second place earlier in the afternoon, this edition of El Jadida is already a good show for me”. Yesterday, Emanuele Gaudiano revealed that Jaja was doing so well because his 11-year-old daughter Lisa had exercised him. Today, the grey gelding was beaten: “It’s normal, Lisa didn’t ride him today, she preferred to stay at the beach”.

In this Prix MAPM/SOREC, the Italian was hot on the heels of Ireland’s Jessica Burke (Express Trend), one second behind, followed by the inevitable Saudi Arabian Abdullah Alsharbatly (Ermindo W). With France’s Ines Jolly at the foot of the podium with Imposant van de Renger, it’s fair to say that (almost) all the favorites were on show today in this highly competitive class in preparation for Sunday’s Grand Prix de Sa Majesté le Roi Mohammed VI.In the meantime, tomorrow sees the traditional Winning Tour, with perhaps a surprise winner this time?
