Dutch success at Furusyyia Fei Nations Cup 2016 in Rotterdam
After showing their strength in the dressage, the Netherlands won the Nations Cup CHIO in Rotterdam after 11 years of trying. The Dutch will go to the Rio Olympics in great shape, with Harrie Smolders and Emerald NOP, Jur Vrieling on VDL Zirocco Blue NOP, Willem Greve with Carambola NOP and Maikel van der Vleuten riding VDL Groep Verdi TN NOP, under the supervision of the strategist Rob Ehrens. It was hard to keep up with the Dutch: two double clears (Jur Vrieling and Willem Greve), a single point penalty (Harrie Smolders in the first round, but discarded) and such an advantage that it would have been superfluous for Maikel van der Vleuten to go round again after a clear round in the first round. There was little the other teams could do to stop the oranje party.
It will be really tough time for the coach to pick the team for Rio de Janeiro with such an abundance of quality, there is plenty of choice but Rob Ehrens had announced that he would make his own choice after the event in Rotterdam.
This triumph has also brought with it a major change in the overall standings as the Netherlands had been in second place behind leaders France, but moved top with 260 points, followed by France with 215 and third in Britain with 200 points.
It was not a good trip for Les Bleus who finished in 7th place with 28 penalties, better for the Swiss, who took second place with 4 points ahead of Germany (8) and Sweden ( 4th place with 13 penalties).
5th US – 16 penalties
6th Belgium – 21 penalties
7th France – 28 penalties
8th Great Britain – 33 penalties
