The 2024 Balkan Jumping and Dressage Championships, held in Istanbul from September 1st to 8th, offered a spectacular showcase of equestrian talent and sportsmanship. Organized by the Turkish Equestrian Federation, the event featured 215 riders from six countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia, and Turkey. The championships not only celebrated competition but also fostered camaraderie and mutual respect among the participating nations.

The Balkan Equestrian Championships aim to promote the development of equestrian sports in the Balkan region, providing a valuable platform for children, juniors, young riders, and ladies to hone their skills and gain competitive experience. With over 60 years of tradition, the event has become a cornerstone of regional equestrian development, increasing the number of athletes, horses, and qualified officials. Many former Balkan champions have gone on to represent their countries at major international competitions.

Hasan Engin Tuncer, President of the Turkish Equestrian Federation, expressed his pride in the event’s success:

“First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the participating countries. It has been a great pleasure to host sport enthusiasts, horse lovers, and equestrian supporters here. After three months of intense preparation, we successfully organized this magnificent event. Every detail was carefully planned, and we delivered a flawless competition. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the organization.”

The Balkan Championships not only celebrated the competitive spirit but also strengthened the bonds of friendship and mutual respect among the nations. The event was a testament to the passion and dedication of the equestrian community, leaving a lasting legacy for future editions.

George Dimaras, 1st Vice-President of the European Equestrian Federation (EEF), who attended the event, remarked:

“The Balkan Championships are an incredibly important event for the region, providing athletes with an opportunity to compete for their country in a quality competition. With over 60 years of tradition, this event has always been a key part of the region’s development pathway. Beyond the sporting experience, the championships offer participants the chance to forge friendships, learn from one another, and most importantly, enjoy their sport together.”

Dimaras also expressed his gratitude to the Turkish Federation:

“We thank the Turkish Federation for hosting this year’s Jumping and Dressage events. Organizing and participating in the Balkan Championships is a significant challenge these days, and we deeply appreciate the efforts of the Balkan National Federations, the organizing committees, the riders, and their families who continue to support this institution and contribute to its success.”
