30 nations confirmed for the FEI Jumping European Championship for Young Riders, Juniors and Children 2022 in Oliva Nova
The Centro Ecuestre Oliva Nova – known as the home of the annual Mediterranean Equestrian Tour – is proud to welcome Europe’s showjumping talents to its venue: From 11th to 17th of July, the FEI Jumping European Championship for Young Riders, Juniors and Children returns to Spain. The last time the youth competed at a Europeans in Spain, was in 2013 in Vejer de la Frontera.
Definite entries for the event in Oliva Nova include 97 Children from 25 nations, 100 Juniors from 26 nations and 86 Young Riders from 23 nations. In total, 30 different nationalities will be at start in Oliva Nova.
Germany’s Matthis Westendarp, last year’s Young Rider champion, returns to defend his title, however, not with his 2021-mount Stalido but with Chillert Blue. In the team competitions, Belgium reigned supreme at the 2021 FEI Jumping European Championship for Young Riders, Juniors and Children in Vilamoura (POR), taking home the gold in each age category. This time, Belgium’s Tristan Guisson on Naturelle vh Legitahof Z – a pair that also took individual silver in 2021 – has moved from Juniors to Young Riders, while his sister, Aurelia Guisson on No Limit vh Legitahof Z – who took the individual bronze in 2021 – still defends her team title in the Juniors. Last year’s individual gold medallist in the Children’s classes, Hungary’s Suzhou Jr. on Perthy Jackson, will also be competing in Oliva Nova – only this time, in the Junior classes, while Finland’s Hugo Kogelnig brings his Vermont 2 back for more championship glory – the pair won the individual silver for Children in 2021.
Great Britain’s Lily Attwood comes fresh from her podium finishes at the CSI5* Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Paris and the Longines Global Champions League of Monaco, while French rider Jeanne Sadran also is a familiar face from the LGCT circuit. Ireland send rising talents that have already established themselves on the international scene, with Harry Allen, as well as Max and Tom Wachman, among their team members. Other well-known names competing include Thibault Philippaerts (BEL), Skye Morssinkhof (NED) and Eden Leprevost Blinlebreton (FRA).
The full entry list can be found here.
The exciting week with Europe’s showjumping talents kicks off on Sunday July 10th with the veterinary inspection, followed by an opening ceremony in the evening. The live band Seven Crushers will be playing a concert after the opening ceremony, and there will be a BBQ in front of The Club.
On Tuesday, the Juniors and Young Riders will have their first individual qualifier, while the Children get into action on Wednesday. The first medals will be decided on Thursday July 14th, after the team final for the Juniors. On Friday it’s time for the team final for Young Riders, while the individual medals for the Juniors and team medals for Children will be decided on Saturday. The 2022-edition of the FEI Jumping European Championship for Young Riders, Juniors and Children concludes on Sunday, July 17th, with the individual final for Young riders and Children.
