Cremona, March 27 – The first major reining event of the year, the IRHA/IRHBA/NRHA Derby, is once again being hosted at CremonaFiere, Cremona, Italy. This prestigious event has seen tremendous growth, thanks to the collaboration between IRHA, IRHBA, and organizer Giancarlo Doardo’s LGV committee, who have successfully integrated the Derby into the International Reining Horse Breeder Association (IRHBA) program. For the third consecutive year, the Derby has seen an increase in both entries and added money, further cementing its status as a key event in the reining calendar. The competition also hosts the IRHA/FISE Debuttanti Championship Finals and serves as a qualification event for the 2025 World Reining Championships.

With the 38th edition of the IRHA/IRHBA/NRHA Non Pro and Open Derby Championships now firmly set, all finalists are ready to compete in the Friday and Saturday Finals.

Quarter Dream Open Derby Go Round Leaders

On Wednesday, riders battled it out in the second section of the Quarter Dream Open Derby qualifier. Leading the pack in the IRHBA/IRHA Level 4 Open and IRHA Level 4 Open divisions was NRHA Million Dollar Rider Manuel Cortesi, who rode Frozen Sven, a 5-year-old stallion owned by 7 Heaven Reining Horses. The stallion, sired by NRHA 3 Million Dollar Sire SG Frozen Enterprise and out of Lady Master, scored an impressive 224 to take the top spot.

“I’m happy with this first go and that the horse is in good shape. During the winter break, he had the opportunity to rest, with only a few schooling shows. He has always achieved great results, and the main goal now is to maintain him in this condition. We will focus on refining a few things for the final, after which, as they say, may the best one win,” said Cortesi.

In the IRHA/IRHBA Level 3 division, Andrea Costa and Gunnaceemerock earned a 221.5, securing the top score. This 6-year-old stallion, sired by NRHA 13 Million Dollar Sire Gunnatrashya and out of Arc Cee N Sparks, is owned by Daniel Straumann and bred by Arcese Quarter Horses USA.

Pierluigi Fabbri and Captain Rooster Jac claimed the lead in the IRHA/IRHBA Level 2 division with a 218.5. The 5-year-old stallion, owned by Giorgio Guida and bred by Angelucci Quarter Horses, is sired by AB Captain Badger and out of Rooster Flash N Glo.

In the IRHA/IRHBA Level 1 division, Luca Dossetto and Trashya King tied with Whizkey Princess for the top score of 214.5. Trashya King, a 7-year-old stallion owned by Bernice Engel and Gabriele Costantini, is sired by NRHA 13 Million Dollar Sire Gunnatrashya and out of CG Lady Corona, while Whizkey Princess is a 7-year-old mare owned by Loris Raffagnato and bred by Cardinal Hill Training Center LLC.

Maya Robert-Marrie and Hey Mister CJ led the IRHA Level 1 Open division with a score of 217. The 6-year-old stallion, owned and bred by Ludivine Tsirtsikolou, is sired by CJ Whiz and out of Lil Nu Chex.
