2018 Longines FEI European Championships for Children, Juniors and Young Riders Eventing: two marseillase in Juniors!
The tension was at its peak this morning when the last Junior riders entered the Fontainebleau’s Petit Parquet ground for the Show Jumping test of the Longines FEI European Junior Eventing Championships presented by PADD, especially in the French team. After a little mistake of Zazie Gardeau and Udine Jolimon Béarn, France could have doubted, but their three other team members went clear, while three of the four German riders also had one rail down. France’s Anouk Canteloup, leader since yesterday’s Cross-Country and last one to compete today had a terrible pressure on her shoulders, especially as she was riding
her first European Championships. And thanks to Daniel Del Impermeable’s magnificent clear round, she finished double gold medallist! All the entourage of the French team then exploded with joy! A whole clan congratulated the young champion, who would need a few seconds to realize what she achieved. “I usually
feel a lot of stress before riding. As my horse was great at the paddock, I was pretty confident going on the track. He saved me on a few fences and I cannot thank him enough for that. I do not realize yet. It’s incredible!”, she said. So the French public could sing two emotional Marseillaise.
Thanks to their four clear rounds, Great Britain finished on the second step of the podium, as well as their best rider Heidi Coy, individual silver medallist. “Royal Fury was a little flat this morning, but I managed to keep him well with me. We started the Team championship pretty well and we knew we had good horses. Even though we were only sixth after the Dressage test, we knew we could finished well because
our horses are good jumpers,” said Heidi who rode here her second Championships with her eight-year-old stallion, and her last as a Junior.
The German team finished third. Team and also Individual bronze medallist, Brandon Schäfer-Gehrau said he was very happy with this result. “The atmosphere here is great. People are really behind us and it’s fantastic to represent Germany! My mare Fräulein Frieda 10 was perfect. She did a great Dressage. During the Cross-
Country, she was like a cross machine, I just had to stay with her and she gave me everything. I’m really happy with her!”
JUMPING: JASON FOLEY CLAIMED GOLD IN JUNIORS
Ireland once again shone this morning on the Fontainebleau’s main arena, in the Longines FEI Jumping Junior European Championships presented by the Haras du Val Henry. After picking up the team bronze, Jason Foley won the Individual gold. “It’s incredible!” said the young Irishman getting out the field. “These European Championships were my goal this year so I’m thrilled. We were in the top ten from the first day and then Castlefield Vegas gave me three clear rounds. Getting the Team bronze was already great, so I’m really happy today!” he added.
Silver medallist with Disckoboy DN, Great Britain’s Oliver Fletcher also seemed delighted with his fine performance: “I’ve never felt so good! I would really like to thank everyone, especially the owners of my horse, Lady Kirkham and Lady Harris, for entrusting him to me a year and a half ago. I really appreciate them. Now we will offer him a little break because he gave us a lot. » he said.
The Belgian Simon Morssinkhof, who only had one rail down in the Second Round with Vivolta de Grée, finished on the third step of the podium.
DRESSAGE: THE NETHERLANDS ALWAYS AT THE TOP!
This morning, the podium of the Longines FEI European Individual Dressage Championships presented by GPA was pretty much like the Young Riders’ one yesterday. Dutch riders Sanne Buijs and Lara van Nek took gold and silver, ahead ofGermany’s Kenya Schwierking. For the second year in a row, Sanne Buijs won Team
and Individual gold!
Very moved, Sanne Buijs and Lara van Nek shared their joy on the podium. “This week was amazing! I am so glad! Being on the podium with Lara gives an even better feeling,” said the gold medallist while her compatriot felt a little disappointment: “I made a few small mistakes this morning, so I am not very happy
with myself, but still very satisfied with this second place” she adds. With an already impressive list of achievements for their young age, these thirteen-year-old riders do not intend to stop there. To the question “What are you going to do this summer?”,
Lara answered: “Train for the future!” with an incredible professionalism. “Yes, but we’re going to celebrate theses medals first!”, Sanne added with a broad smile on her lips.
The Freestyle to Music test of the Longines FEI European Junior Championships presented by Devoucoux crowned the three riders already on yesterday’s Individual test podium.
Daphne van Perperstraten of the Netherlands ended these championships with three gold medals, and her teammate Valentina Pistner with two silver and one gold.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Romy Allard completed her Europeans week with a silver and two bronze medals.
