18 Teams to Compete in the Final Nations Cup of the Season at the VI Andalucía October Tour
Montenmedio, October 22, 2024 – The much-anticipated VI Andalucía October Tour will host the final Nations Cup of the 2024 season this week, marking the 30th edition of the circuit. With a record-breaking participation of 18 teams from across the globe, this CSIO3* event is set to deliver an unforgettable conclusion to the year’s international show jumping season.
The Nations Cup, scheduled for Friday, October 25, at the Dehesa Montenmedio equestrian center, promises intense competition. Teams from Germany, Ireland, the United States, Spain, Italy, France, Brazil, and other top nations will compete for the last title of the year. As the largest Nations Cup event of the 2024 season, this competition will feature some of the most prominent riders and horses on the circuit. The event has grown in significance since its first edition in 2020, making Montenmedio one of the most important venues in the global equestrian calendar.
Top Teams and Riders Among the favorites are Germany, the team that leads the 2024 Nations Cup rankings with five victories, and Ireland, which has secured 14 podium finishes this year. Also in the spotlight is the Spanish team, eager to defend its home turf after winning the Nations Cup in 2022 and 2023 at Dehesa Montenmedio. Spain’s squad includes notable riders like Julio Arias, the recently crowned Spanish National Champion, and Teresa Blázquez, who played a pivotal role in Spain’s back-to-back wins at this venue. Blázquez, alongside her talented horse “Nasa de Toxandria,” has been a strong force for Spain, leading the team to top-three finishes in four of their last six Nations Cup appearances.
The Italian Team Italy will also present a strong team in this edition of the Nations Cup, led by chef d’equipe Marco Porro. The Italian delegation includes a mix of experienced riders and promising talent. Antonio Maria Garofalo, a rider known for his consistency, will anchor the Italian squad, joined by Filippo Lupis and Andrea Messersì, both of whom have delivered strong performances in international competitions throughout the year. Veteran rider Luca Maria Moneta will compete individually but remains a key figure in Italy’s success. Giampiero Garofalo, also competing as an individual, rounds out the Italian contingent. Italy has shown growing strength in recent Nations Cup events, and their lineup for Montenmedio demonstrates their ambition to make a strong impression in the final competition of the season.
Spanish Team Highlights The Spanish team also includes José Bono with “Alí Babá HT,” for whom this will be his third appearance in the Nations Cup. Sira Martínez, completing the Spanish quintet, is set to make her debut in the senior Nations Cup, bringing fresh talent to the squad. For veteran Fernando Fourcade, who was last seen as a reserve in Warsaw earlier this year, Montenmedio could mark a return to the Nations Cup after his last official competition in 2010. Fourcade, who debuted in 1990, has participated in 33 Nations Cup events to date.
A Strong Tradition at Montenmedio Dehesa Montenmedio, with its world-class facilities, has hosted the Nations Cup since 2020. The event has seen thrilling competitions, with Germany winning the inaugural edition, followed by Great Britain in 2021. In the last two years, Spain triumphed, making the upcoming edition especially exciting for local fans eager to see their national team continue its winning streak.
With the participation of teams from Germany, Belgium, Brazil, France, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, Morocco, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, Turkey, and Spain, the Nations Cup at Montenmedio is poised to deliver a spectacular finish to the 2024 season.
